Grain barges moving again – slowly – on Mississippi

The flooded Mississippi River has been reopened to barges carrying grain headed for export from the Gulf of Mexico, but the Coast Guard ordered travel at the slowest possible speed to alleviate the threat of levee breaches along the way, the Associated Press reported.

Thousands of acres of farmland in the lower Delta are threatened south of Natchez, Miss., where Tuesday a 15-mile stretch of river was closed, the AP said.
