CFTC sets public meeting on investment proposals, rules

As congressional committees prepare to hold hearings on the bankruptcy of MF Global and the issue of whether the international financial derivatives broker mixed client and company funds, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that it will hold a public meeting on Monday to consider two proposals and two final rules, including investment of customer funds and funds held in an account for foreign futures and options transactions.

The commission will consider a further notice of proposed rulemaking on process for making a swap available to trade under Section 2(h)(8) of the Commodity Exchange Act; a final rule on registration of foreign boards of trade and a proposed interpretation for retail commodity transactions under Commodity Exchange Act Section 2(c)(2)(D).

CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler is scheduled to testify before the Senate Agriculture Committee at a hearing on MF Global on Thursday.
