New FAPRI study shows House, Senate farm bills differ in benefits for crops

The farm bill passed by the House Agriculture Committee would provide substantially more support to producers of wheat, rice, barley and peanuts, while the Senate bill would provide more benefits to corn and soybean producers, according to a new analysis released today by the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute at the University of Missouri (FAPRI).

Under each bill, average net farm income and agricultural real estate values would decline slightly relative to what would happen under a simple continuation of current farm programs, FAPRI said. Impacts on consumer food prices would be very small.
