Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.
President Barack Obama today will nominate Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to succeed Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Los Angeles Times reported today.
Kerry’s nomination is expected to win Senate approval easily, but the schedule for consideration is uncertain.
Kerry’s departure from the Senate will also require a Senate race in Massachusetts, where Republican Sen. Scott Brown, who was defeated this year by Sen.-elect Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is expected to run.
Brown won his Senate seat in a 2010 special election after the death of Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.
