Senate to interrupt immigration debate to vote on farm bill

The Senate will vote on final passage of the farm bill (S. 954) today about 5:30 p.m.

The vote on final passage will follow a half hour of debate on an amendment (#998) on Internet projects in rural areas sponsored by Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and a vote on that amendment, which is expected to be by voice.

The Senate came into session at 2 p.m. Following remarks by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., who confirmed the schedule, the Senate resumed the debate begun Friday on consideration of a motion to proceed to S.744, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill, until 5 p.m.

After the debate on the Leahy amendment and votes on the farm bill this evening, the Senate will return to the immigration bill debate.
