Obama holds immigration event without mentioning farm workers

President Barack Obama held an immigration event today that called on the Senate to pass the immigration reform bill, but he did not mention farm workers.

The United Farm Workers said in a news release that UFW President Arturo Rodriguez had been invited to the event. The White House apparently released only a partial list of the invited attendees and did not list Rodriguez among them.

“I’m honored and proud to be part of the president’s call on the need for a bipartisan and common sense immigration reform that includes a roadmap to citizenship and a swift process for farm workers,” Rodriguez said in a news release issued today.

“We look forward to continuing to work with President Obama and Congress so that President Obama can sign this legislation,” Rodriguez said.

The UFW also announced that it would hold rallies in Bakersfield, Fresno, and Salinas, Calif., and Hermiston, Ore., on Wednesday urging passage of the bill.
