House approves Ag approps rule

The House on Wednesday approved a rule for debate on the fiscal year 2014 Agriculture appropriations bill.

The rule calls for open debate and waives points of order against the bill except for those that would challenge provisions on the grounds that they amount to legislating on an appropriations bill.

The vote was 235 to 187 on a measure that also adopted rules for other bills.

The bill has not been scheduled for floor action. Because the House leaves Friday for a break until July 8, the bill will not come up until after that date.

But it is possible it may be delayed indefinitely because the farm bill failed to pass and Republican leaders may not want another debate on farm policy until a path forward on farm authorizing legislation has been determined.
