Lofgren: To affect Washington, call, email, don’t tweet

Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., said today that Americans who want to have an impact on legislation should “flood” the offices of members of Congress with phone calls and emails rather than relying on social media.

“Take a look at the demographic,” Lofgren said in an apparent reference to the age of members of Congress when she was asked if social media campaigns in favor of immigration reform are an effective way to promote it.

Social media, Lofgren added, “is invisible to way too many members.”

Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., who appeared with Lofgren at an event co-sponsored by Bloomberg Government and the National Restaurant Association, urged people in favor of immigration to tell members of Congress their own stories and how the immigration situation affects them.
