Agriculture Research Service Administrator Ed Knipling will retire on September 1 after 48 years of federal service of which 46 were spent at USDA, Agriculture Undersecretary for Research, Education and Economics Catherine Woteki announced in a letter to ARS employees on Thursday.

Woteki praised Knipling for his service, particularly his “attention to hiring and training great scientists and scientist managers."

Woteki said ARS will conduct a national search for a successor and that Caird Rexroad will be acting administrator for eight weeks, followed by Chavonda Jacobs-Young for eight weeks.
