House Approps rejects Farr amendment on school meals

The House Appropriations Committee has rejected an amendment offered by House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee ranking member Sam Farr, D-Calif., to strike the provision in the bill that requires the Agriculture Department to grant waivers from current school meal nutrition requirements to any schools that say they have lost money in the program for six months.

The vote was 22 in favor and 29 against along party lines, with the Democrats supporting Farr and the Republicans opposing the amendment.

The debate lasted for one hour and 40 minutes. Details will follow.
