Conservation groups oppose Obama’s proposed cuts

A coalition of conservation groups and the National Farmers Union on Thursday sent a letter to congressional budget leaders opposing the cuts to conservation programs that President Barack Obama proposed in his fiscal year 2016 budget.

Noting that the 2014 farm bill already reduced conservation spending, the groups said, “The president’s proposal is shortsighted and would severely limit the capacity of farmers, ranchers, and foresters to conserve water, maintain their soil, and produce abundant food and fiber.”
