FAO to host food and nutrition security symposium

U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization Director General Jose Graziano da Silva has announced an international scientific symposium on food and nutrition security information next week in Rome.

Graziano da Silva said in a news release that more than 300 experts and other participants from around the globe will focus from Tuesday to Thursday on recent advances in measuring food and nutrition security and evaluating the impacts of related programs and policies.

The event will explore how new and better information on hunger and malnutrition can be more effectively linked to national and international policymaking. The event is the first for Graziano da Silva, who once headed Brazil's anti-hunger program and assumed his U.N. post on Jan. 1.
