The Senate adjourned early today for a week without a final vote on the fiscal year 2012 Agriculture appropriations bill. The agriculture appropriations bill is part of a “minibus” of appropriations bills which face Senate vote when members return.
The Senate voted 84-15 to bar people with more than $1 million in adjusted gross income from getting direct payments, Reuters reported. The current limit is $1.25 million in adjusted gross income.
Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., urged a vote against the measure, noting that the agriculture committees are working on a proposal to address the direct payments issue within 10 days.
Earlier this week the Senate added by unanimous consent an amendment sponsored by Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Mark Udall, D-Colo., to stop the Agriculture Department from restricting for one year the use of white potatoes and other starchy vegetables in the school meals programs.
