Crop insurance indemnities total $3.5 billion

Crop insurance companies have paid more than $3.5 billion to farmers for losses this year, the National Crop Insurance Services reported this week.
While crop insurance covers 128 different crops, the crops that suffered the most damage in 2012 are corn, wheat, cotton, soybeans and pasture rangeland and forage.
