The Department of Labor this week announced a grant competition for the National Farmworker Jobs Program, which provides training, employment and support services for migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families.
“Farm workers — harvesting and packaging the vegetables and fruits that feed a nation — are vital to our economy,” said acting Secretary Seth D. Harris, noting that the grants are an investment that “benefits not only these workers but all of us.”
The program helps farm workers improve their agricultural job skills or learn new skills in industries that offer higher wages and more stable employment. It also provides child care, housing and transportation assistance
Approximately $9.6 million is available for the program in central California, Hawaii, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey and Puerto Rico.
