Sequestration would affect the Agriculture Department’s Farm Service Agency by requiring a hiring freeze and furloughs for employees, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack wrote Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee Chairman Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., earlier this month.
In the February 5 letter, Vilsack detailed the impact on FSA as well as on the U.S. Forest Service and other divisions.
The Hagstrom Report obtained a copy of the letter.
