Marcus named CFTC general counsel

Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Gary Gensler announced Tuesday that Jonathan Marcus has been named the agency’s general counsel.
Marcus has served at the commission for two years as the deputy general counsel for litigation.
Before joining the CFTC, Marcus was of counsel at Covington & Burling LLP, where he was a member of the Supreme Court and Appellate Litigation Practice.
Before that, Marcus served at the Justice Department as an assistant to the solicitor general. He also served in the appellate section of Justice's criminal division, where he briefed and argued many cases in the federal courts of appeals.
Marcus began his legal career as a law clerk for Judge José A. Cabranes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He graduated magna cum laude from Yale University in 1990 and obtained his law degree from Yale Law School in 1994
