Neugebauer introduces Roberts’ food stamp bill in House

Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, last week introduced a bill to reduce food stamp spending that is a companion to the bill introduced by Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan.
The bill would cut $35 billion in spending on food stamps — formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assitance Program or SNAP — over 10 years.
The bill would restrict categorical eligibility to people receiving cash assistance, eliminate qualification through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, end certain employment and workforce training programs that are considered duplicative of those conducted by the Labor Department, eliminate bonuses giving to states for signing people up for SNAP and make sure lottery winners will not get benefits.
