Shah, Vilsack to testify before Senate Appropriations

U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Rajiv Shah is scheduled to testify before the Senate State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee on Tuesday.

Shah is expected to discuss the Obama administration’s controversial proposal to change international food aid from commodity assistance to cash assistance. The proposal would also involve shifting jurisdiction over the program from the Agriculture appropriations subcommittee to the State and Foreign Operations subcommittee.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is scheduled to testify before the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee on Thursday, the same day that the Senate Agriculture Committee may take up the farm bill.
