President Barack Obama, Rep. Marcia Fudge, who is chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus and a member of the House Agriculture Committee, and others brought up the issue of hunger at the 50th anniversary commemoration of the March on Washington on Wednesday.
Obama, noting that he believes courage comes from “when we turn not from each other or on each other but towards one another,” said. “With that courage, we can feed the hungry and house the homeless and transform bleak wastelands of poverty into fields of commerce and promise.”
Fudge, a Democrat from Ohio and the ranking member on the House Agriculture Department Operations, Oversight and Nutrition Subcommittee, said that it was up to Congress to end discrimination in the criminal justice system and “to make sure that no child goes hungry to school or to bed,” The Hill reported.
