Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert,R-Ill., says there is no “Hastert Rule,” but that Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, the current speaker, cannot pass many bills without a Republican majority and still keep his job, National Journal reports.
The unofficial “rule” says House leaders shouldn’t allow a vote on a bill unless it has the support of the majority of their own party.
