House conferees including Southerland may be named Friday

Rep. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., said today that she expects House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, to name farm bill conferees on Friday, but a spokesman for Boehner said he could not confirm that was the plan.
Noem, who made the statement on Agritalk radio, hinted that she would be a conferee, but said she was not at liberty to confirm it.
Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Fla., the sponsor of the food stamp amendments to which the Democrats objected, will be among the conferees, a GOP aide confirmed.
As an advocate of big policy changes to the food stamp program formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Southerland would be the 2013 counterpart to Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., who served as the representative of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, R-Calif., on the 2008 farm bill conference.
DeLauro said at the end of that conference she was not satisfied with the increase she got, but that she had achieved all she could.
