Scuse to visit South Dakota blizzard area

Agriculture Undersecretary for Farm and Foreign Agriculture Services Michael Scuse will travel to South Dakota this week to survey the damage from the October 3-5 blizzard that killed at least 80,000 cattle.
The livestock disaster aid program has expired, but is expected to be revived retroactively in the new farm bill. The blizzard occurred during the government shutdown, which meant ranchers could not contact local Farm Service Agency offices to find out what documentation they needed to make claims in the future.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D. both announced Scuse’s travel plans.
