FDA releases proposed rule on animal food

The Food and Drug Administration today released the proposed rule “Current Good Manufacturing Practice and Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Food for Animals” under the Food Safety Modernization Act, and said it will be published in the Federal Register on Tuesday.
Comments will be due 120 days after the official publication.
The National Grain and Feed Association and the Animal Feed Industry Association said they would submit extensive comments on the rule.
AFIA said it would analyze the preventive control rules jointly with the Foreign Supplier Verification and the Accreditation of Third Party Auditors rules already released and has asked FDA extend the deadline for comments on those rules to match the preventive control rules deadline.
FDA will hold three public meetings on the proposed rule:
