Leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations committees said today they expect Congress by the end of next week to approve a continuing resolution funding the government for the rest of the fiscal year, but that they will need a three-day extension to cover the period after the current continuing resolution that ends on Wednesday, January 15.
Congress is expected to finish the omnibus appropriations bill before leaving for a one-week recess that begins with Martin Luther King Day on January 20.
“We’re making solid progress and I’m confident that next week we’ll have a bipartisan agreement that finds common ground,” Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., said in a news release today.
“This very short extension is needed to prevent any funding gaps as the agreement moves through the House and Senate next week.”
