BUENOS AIRES — The World Farmers’ Organization today elected Peter Kendall, former president of the National Farmers Union in the United Kingdom, as its new president.

Kendall was elected by acclamation to a two-year term at the group’s fourth general assembly. He succeeds Robert Carlson, a former North Dakota Farmers Union president who was the founding president of WFO.

Evelyn Nguleka, the president of the Zambia National Farmers’ Union, who was elected to the board, will serve as vice president, Kendall said.

In accepting the position, Kendall said that his goal is “to make WFO the most prominent voice of farmers worldwide so people come to us for a steer about what farmers are thinking.”

Climate change, Kendall said, is making farming more challenging than ever.

According to his biography on the WFO website, Kendall farms in Eyeworth, East Bedfordshire, in partnership with his brother Richard. He earned a degree in agricultural economics at Nottingham University before returning to the family business in 1984.
