WRRDA conference report agreement reached

Conferees on the Water Resources Reform and Development Act reached agreement on the $8.2 billion measure late Thursday and are making plans to bring the bill to the House and Senate floors for final passage, leaders of the committees in charge announced late Thursday.
The bill is important to American agriculture because it authorizes repair and construction on locks and dams that ship many of the country's food products.
Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., EPW ranking member David Vitter, R-La., House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster, R-Pa., and Transportation ranking member Nick Rahall, D-W.V., said in a joint statement:
“We are proud to deliver what the American public wants and needs. This conference report maintains ports and navigation routes for commerce and the movement of goods, provides flood control that protects lives and property, and restores vital ecosystems to preserve our natural heritage. This important measure will strengthen our nation’s infrastructure and keep America competitive in the global marketplace.”
The committee leaders said they would finalize the conference report next week and that additional details will be released when it is filed.
The Hill reported that the bill will be on the floor of each chamber next week, although the news release did not state when the bill will be considered.
