NSAC explains interpretive rule, opposes broad ‘certainty’

The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition has published two blog posts to explain the Waters of the U.S. rule.
While other farm groups have said they fear that WOTUS and the interpretive rule associated with it will increasing regulation, NSAC, which represents small, environmentally-minded farmers, has filed comments with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers that some of the exemptions could lead to bad practices.
NSAC also said officials should not talk about providing broad “certainty” to farmers and ranchers.
“If they decide to stick with an interpretive rule, we think it needs substantial revision,” Ferd Hoefner, the NSAC policy director. “It is not a bad idea, it just wasn’t fully cooked before it was released.”
