White House hosts ‘virtual’ kitchen garden field trip today

White House Chef Chris Comerford will host a virtual Maker Camp field trip to First Lady Michelle Obama’s White House garden today at 2 p.m. EDT.
Maker Camp, sponsored by Google and Make: magazine, invites 13- to 18-year-olds to join virtual field trips at which they can “build, tinker and explore.” Children younger than 13 can participate when using an adult’s Google+ account.
Comerford will give participants a look inside the first lady’s kitchen garden, share tips for cooking and gardening at home, the White House said in anews release.
The event occurs while the Obama family is vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard.
“Campers” must have a Google+ account and internet access to take part, but can register for the free events at any time. This is the final week of the summer program.
