Intergovernmental panel drafts climate change report

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has finished its draft synthesis report assessing scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant to understanding climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation.

The draft report, which has been sent out to governments for comment, will be used worldwide in climate-change policymaking and expected to be finalized at a meeting in Copenhagen October 27 to 31.

At that meeting the IPCC’s member governments will examine the report’s summary for policymakers line-by-line and the longer report section-by-section in a dialogue with the authors of the report.

The Panel on Climate Change was established by World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
