House to return for organizational conferences

The House of Representatives will return to Washington on Wednesday through Friday, but will focus on "organizational conferences," House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said in a note to Republican offices on Thursday.

The House will only consider bills on the suspension calendar next week, McCarthy added.

The House will also be in session November 17 to 20, the note said.

The House is likely to consider three bills involving the Environmental Protection Agency:
  • H.R. 1422, the EPA Science Advisory Board Reform Act, authored by Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah, which establishes board member qualifications;
  • H.R. 4012, the Secret Science Reform Act, authored by Rep. David Schweikert, R-Ariz., which prohibits EPA from finalizing a regulation unless the data used is made public; and
  • H.R. 4795, the Promoting New Manufacturing Act, authored by Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., which brings transparency to the EPA permitting process.
