House Energy & Commerce subcommittee to hold hearing on GMO bill

The House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee will hold a hearing Thursday on the bill introduced by Reps. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., and G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., on labeling of foods derived from genetically engineered crops.

The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. in Room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee has released a draft of Pompeo's bill, which has been altered to give the Agriculture Department a bigger role in regulation of genetically altered plants and foods. The Food and Drug Administration is the lead agency on those issues.
