Vilsack to speak at avian influenza conference

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will speak at a poultry industry conference on avian influenza on Tuesday in Des Moines, a spokeswoman said today.
The conference, titled “Avian Influenza – Lessons Learned” will be sponsored by the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, The Des Moines Register reported.
Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, a Republican, will also speak on Tuesday. Those two speeches will be open to the press but closed to the public, the Register said. The conference is open to “qualified stakeholders” to allow for an “open and frank discussion” about the disease, a spokeswoman for the Poultry & Egg Association told the Register.
The conference will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown.
