Sam Kass, the former director of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative whose appointment as senior food analyst for NBC News was announced today, will make his first appearance on NBC’s “Today” show on Thursday.
Kass is scheduled to appear in the 8:30 a.m. EDT time period, he said in an email to The Hagstrom Report.
NBC said in a news release that in his new position, Kass will cover a variety of topics from healthy eating and wellness to emerging food trends and policy. He will report for all platforms of NBC News, including “Today” and “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt,” and the “Today” show’s online Food section, where he will write a monthly column.
Kass worked at the White House from 2009 to 2014. In addition to being executive director of Let’s Move, Kass had the titles of senior policy adviser for nutrition policy for President Barack Obama and assistant chef in the White House kitchen.
He left the White House in December to move to New York City where his wife, Alex Wagner, has her own program on MSNBC.
He cooked for the Obama family in their home in Chicago during the 2008 presidential campaign.
Kass graduated from the University of Chicago and received his international culinary education in Austria, Italy, New Zealand, Mexico, and the United States.
